Can You Drink Tap Water in Daegu?

Water from the tap is safe to drink nowadays, but is it always that way? Recently in my hometown of Daegu, there was a contamination of very dangerous drugs and chemicals in the water supply. The reason for this is that the main transportation route into the city from the overseas regions has been through the old Korea Railroad tunnel. This means that the contaminated water has seeped into the urban areas below and thus many people living there are suffering from illnesses that are directly related to the water supply.
I personally like to travel where there is no pollution, and the only way to get pure water everywhere I go is by traveling through a tunnel. But I must say, that many places in Asia suffer from poor water quality. In China there are many reports about cancer cases caused by drinking polluted water. Like the rest of Korea, Daegu is safe at any time of the day. Westerners, especially minorities or men with Korean women, may encounter hostility from drunken men, but this is increasingly rare. The tap water is safe, but newcomers with sensitive stomachs should be prudent with street food or with the spice levels. Be aware that some, but not all, ATM machines close before midnight if you need late-night drinking money.
